[Q] Help with rooting topic

I have a Polaroid 8" tablet model PTAB8000, it is running Android 4.0.3. I am trying to Root it so I can install Google Play and actually do something with it. I have found a couple of threads here on how to, but didn't work. Also have tried several one click programs, nothing. I have rooted several Android phones with no problem, but this tablet is kicking my butt. Any suggestions before I throw it away? I am pretty computer literate but if you can help with this, talk to me like I'm a 2 year old. Remember I was dumb enough to buy a Polaroid tablet. Thank you.
