Hi all.
Firstly, having spent a long time reading this and other forums in order to find a solution to my problem, I'd like to say a huge 'Thank you' for all the help and advice you provide. As a self-confessed non-geek, I understand only a tiny fraction of what's said/written so it's possible I've misunderstood my problem, missed something very basic etc - please feel free to tell me if you think that's the case..
Also, as a new xda member, it's possible I've posted this thread in the wrong forum. Again, if so, please let me know.
I have a three-year-old Wave 3 with which, on the whole, I've had few problems and with which I've been very happy. A couple of days ago, however, it started rebooting without end. Here's what I see:
(With SIM and battery recently inserted)
1. Initial black screen with 'Samsung Wave 3 GT-S8600' in white font.
2. Blue 'Bada' screen
3. Black screen with 'Samsung Mob!le' and Samsung URL
4. At this point, it requests the PIN (SIM inserted).
5. As it enters the language, time-zone, date/time configuration, I can see that I have network coverage, the 3G icon, and that the battery is 85% charged
6. Having configured language, time-zone, date/time, it displays the same black screen as at 3 above, before displaying, for a split second, my desktop, icons, and 'wallpaper' photo.
7. Before I can do anything, it reboots again and continues like this.
Because it never actually boots fully, I don't believe that I can access it with Kies - please tell me if you disagree.
On the advice of a member of FNAC staff (I'm in France) who suggested either a firmware issue or a screwed motherboard, I was able to put the phone into 'download mode' (volume down + menu + power).
I've updated the firmware (a first for me!), following this tutorial < Link removed>, and having downloaded Multiloader v5.67 and this firmware S8600XXLL3_S8600OXAMA1_XEF.zip.
The 'flash'(?) appeared to complete successfully - I received the 'All files complete' message at the end - but the phone continued to reboot without giving me the opportunity to enter the *#5239870*# puis PreConfig puis *#27236*# mentioned in the tutorial.
(Note, just in case it's important, the firmware zip contained no 'Boot', 'Factory FS', 'DSP1' or 'ETC' elements).
Although I had previously backed up my contacts in Kies, they're no longer visible so, if at all possible, I'd really like to avoid doing anything which wipes them from the phone.
Sorry to make my first post so long and, if anyone needs any more information, please just let me know.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice you're able to provide.
Regards,
Jes
