[Q] Nexus 6 (Android 5.0.1) Taskbar and Soft Keys Have Disappeared. topic

Greetings XDA!!
PROBLEM:
I recently got a brand new Nexus 6 running stock ROM, Android 5.0.1. I rooted my phone a while ago, and I installed this application called SoftKeyZ. This application allows you to change the soft key icons on a device that supports on screen soft keys (the home button, the back button, and the recent apps button). None of the custom soft keys worked for my Nexus 6 so I selected a button titles "Backup". That was supposed to restore all the normal soft key files on my phone so they were normal. That did NOT work. The phone is now completely unusable! The notification drawer has disappeared along with all three soft keys!!! So I have no acccess to notifications, or any of the on screen buttons.
WHAT I TRIED:
I tried booting into safe mode, and uninstalling the SoftKeyZ application. Note: the soft keys and the notification bar were even nonexistent while in safe mode. So, I then reluctantly attempted to fix the problem by factory reseting my device. THIS DIDN'T WORK EITHER!! So now I have a phone that has no dada on it, it has no notification bar, has no soft keys, and IS COMPLETELY UNUSABLE!!!!!!!
MY THANKS:
Thank you for reading my post. I hope that you can help me fix my problem because I will be pretty screwed if I cant use my phone due to the fact that I use it to make personal calls, texts, and such. Thank you very much

-Marc

Nexus 5 camera launch shortcut using volume keys from standby/sleep mode? topic

I was wondering if there is a mod that you can activate the camera from the standby lock screen by holding the volume key? as i don't listen to music on my phone so that wont matter to me if the volume key is used for camera shortcut.

At the moment i am using gravity box and xposed on 4.4.4 and i set the volume down key to trigger the flash light.

[How-to] Rooted stock SGP621 firmware with DRM keys topic

Disclaimer:
  1. I make no claims to any of the codes, scripts and programs listed in this post. Credit goes to the creators.

  2. This serves as a extension of lowtraxx's guide (which left your device on a rooted SGP621 on a D6603 system).

  3. These are what I did to get stock rooted firmware on my SGP621 while keeping the bootloader locked and most importantly, the DRM keys intact. I make no guarantees that you will not brick your device, but I did quite a lot of trial and error flashing without messing things up, so if you know what you are doing, these steps should be relatively safe.

Files/Tools Required:
  1. Backup TA by DevShaft

  2. Flashtool by Androxyde

  3. Stock SGP621 FTF (I compiled my own by downloading the firmware using XperiFirm by laguCool and bundling the FTF using Flashtool. Alternatively, you can just use the one provided in lowtraxx's guide.)

  4. Advanced Stock Kernel by krabappel2548

  5. PRFCreator by zxz0O0

  6. SuperSU by Chainfire

  7. SonyRICDefeat by dosomder

Prerequisite:
  1. Follow lowtraxx's guide to completion.

Steps:
  1. Backup TA partition using Backup TA.

  2. Return to stock unrooted by flashing the SGP621 FTF using Flashtool.

  3. Unlock the bootloader (You'll lose the DRM keys here, but it doesn't matter anymore since you already have them backed up using Backup TA).

  4. Flash the Advanced Stock Kernel using Flashtool in FastBoot mode. At this point your device will be unlocked, with DRM keys lost, and rooted with custom recovery.

  5. Using PRFCreator on the SGP621 FTF and the SuperSU zip, create a rooted stock firmware flashable zip.

  6. Copy the resulting zip onto your device's internal storage or external SD card.

  7. Also copy the SonyRICDefeat zip to the same location.

  8. Boot into TWRP on your device (Boot up the device and press the Volume down key when the purple LED lights up on the Sony boot screen).

  9. Flash the rooted stock firmware zip followed by the SonyRICDefeat zip.

  10. Once complete, reboot into system and set up the device for USD Debugging.

  11. Restore the TA partition using Backup TA.

  12. Reboot the device again and you now have the device on rooted stock firmware, with DRM keys intact.

{Feature requests} Allow to assign volume keys on up/down physical buttons. topic

On the nexus player remote there are not a lot of keysNexus remote .
Would appreciate the possibility to control volume on up/down keys of the remote (now - controls brightness, that is not needed for tv)

How-to: root, keep and backup DRM keys, etc. topic

By almost popular demand, making this a thread ;)

This is a how-to root, install recovery, backup drm keys, etc. from scratch in a single thread since finding all threads can be daunting. That's basically all the things you generally want to do when you root the phone.

0) Ensure you backed up everything you need (files/apps/pictures/etc) first, these will be lost!
-- FW DOWNGRADE AND INSTALL WITH FLASHTOOL --
1) Downgrade fw to 23.0.A.2.93 (Device D5803) or anything prior to 23.0.1.A.5.77 (december fw)
Global: https://mega.co.nz/#!1RUA0IbT!HhWALw...tjpRzbrjYSH40M (or see http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...d5833-t2906706 for more links if this one no longer works)
2) Get and install Flashtool at http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
3) Move the fw into the C:/Flashtool/firmwares directory
4) Open Flashtool, click on the lightning symbol ("flash device"), select "Flashmode" and click on "OK"
5) Just select the name of the fw you downloaded and click on "Flash"
6) Wait for a window to pop up (it may take a few minutes, be patient)
7) Now everything is ready: turn off your phone
8) Push the volume DOWN button, connect the USB cable to your PC while still pushing the volume DOWN button
9) Once the flashing process has started, release the volume button
10) Do not disconnect the USB cable, wait until flash completes (flashtool will indicate when you can unplug).
-- ROOTING W/ EXPLOIT --
11) Enable USB debugging on the phone (Settings => About phone => Click 7 times on Android Build to unlock developer options)
12) Allow mock locations (Settings => Developer Settings)
13) Ensure you have adb drivers installed (http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/ don't use it to update
14) Download rooting tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/devd...10766&task=get) or latest from http://forum.xda-developers.com/cros...-4322-t3011598
15) Unzip the rooting tool
16) Connect phone to your computer
17) Put phone in airplane mode
18) Run install.bat from the rooting tool (allow USB debugging when asked on the phone every time, also allow root prompt) and follow instructions from the tool
19) You should be rooted now, if you get an error "Device not rooted" trying running the tool once more
-- Backup DRM keys/TA Partition --
20) Get backup ta tool from https://github.com/DevShaft/Backup-TA/releases
21) Unzip it!
22) Ensure phone is still connected (or reconnect it)
23) Run Backup-TA.bat
24) Read the information and follow the instructions given by the tool.
-- Install latest firwmare with root, DRM keys, recovery --
25) Get PRFC from http://forum.xda-developers.com/cros...e-pre-t2859904
26) Get latest fw (https://mega.co.nz/#!AUEg1ayC!UsKs6y...g8zMdkBCFi-X9Q) (currently this is fw 23.0.1.A.5.77)
27) Get latest SuperSU zip http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
28) Get DualRecovery zip (the flashable zip, not the installer one) http://nut.xperia-files.com/?dlid=Wj...hhYmxlLnppcA== (or from http://nut.xperia-files.com/ you want
Z3C-lockeddualrecoveryX.Y.Z-RELEASE.flashable.zip)
29) Start PRFC and add the 3 zip (FTF file is the fw, SuperSU and Recovery)
30) Click "create" - this will take a while
31) Copy resulting "pre-rooted" fw to /sdcard0 on your phone (it means copy flashable.zip from the PRFC directory to the "internal storage" directory of the phone)
32) Get Dual Recovery installer this time, at http://nut.xperia-files.com/download...FsbGVyLnppcA== (or from http://nut.xperia-files.com/ you want
Z3C-lockeddualrecoveryX.Y.Z-RELEASE.installer.zip notice how thats 'installer' this time, not the same file as in 28!)
33) Unzip it
34) Unfortunately the script is a bit buggy here, so first go in the "files" directory then go to File menu of the windows explorer and select "open command prompt..."
35) In the command prompt type "adb shell" then "su" (allow root on the phone if needed) then "mount -oremount,rw /system". That's it, close the prompt window.
36) start install.bat and follow instructions (hit 1 (allow adb/root on the phone as needed)
37) You should be in recovery automatically now. (if not, reboot and when the LED change colors push volume UP repeatedly)
38) Flash the pre-rooted fw (flashable.zip) from the recovery (touch "install") on the phone, then power off the phone (DO NOT REBOOT)
39) To power off, go in the reboot menu (yeah it feels backwards) then you can hit "shutdown". wait for it to shutdown.
40) Unplug USB
41) Open Flashtool and select the non-pre-rooted fw, but DESELECT system: in "EXCLUDE" make sure you check the checkbox next to "SYSTEM"
42) press volume DOWN and plug USB cable while keeping volume DOWN pressed, when flashing starts, stop pressing the volume button
43) After flash is done and when flashtool tells you to, remove USB cable and start the phone
-- Optional, if you need to restore DRM keys (for ex. if you unlocked the bootloader - note that this WILL relock the bootloader)
44) plug USB back in
45) re-enable usb debugging on the phone (Settings => About phone => Click 7 times on Android Build to unlock developer options)
44) Start backup TA again but this time hit restore
45) Congrats and enjoy, you made it to the end! you now have latest + recovery + root and backups of your DRM keys! (and of course all DRM functions enabled)

People who did the hard work/references thanks to them:

[Q] Capacitive keys and Screen off topic

New to a Samsung device or tablet in this case. I have a problem where I can't use the keys down below (including the home button). I also face random screen off. Hard to explain but it usually happens when the device moves away from me. Sometimes it's just random even when it doesn't move away. I don't know. Any help?

Edit: Everything in Smart Screen is disabled

Unlock Bootloader - Lose DRM keys Hysteria :) topic

I cant hold myself back to share my thoughts about general hysteria about unlocking bootloader and therefore losing DRM keys. While I understand, that many users are pissed off, there are some points to consider before putting blame on Sony:
- losing DRM keys in no way cripples or disables hardware in your phone. DRM keys protect some "exclusive" functions that Sony offers to users of its Stock ROMs, mainly Camera and Display Enhancements.
- Its up to you, to decide whether you want to go on with pure Iron and add functions you want, including any Image enhancements you want to add on top of raw data processing, or go full blown Sony with all bells and whistles.
- One should be clear, what he needs unlocking bootloader for. Root only, or Custom ROM/CM.
- even without "artificial" enhancements to Camera and Display, Z3 (and Z2 as well) is impressive piece of hardware and it will be pleasure to run swift clean Android/CM on it
- I blame Sony of course for not telling users the full story behind unlocking bootloader. It would be fair from Sony to offer re-flashing Stock including DRM to users, who unlocked bootloader before they knew that they will lose certain software functionality.

Howgh.
