Hello,
Recently within the past few days I received the Android 5.0.1 "Lollipop" OTA update for my HTC One M8 here in the UK. The previous Sense 6 version was running on Android 4.4 Kit Kat prior to this update.
The update brought along various widely announced 5.0 Lollipop features, one of which was a new (Chrome-inspired) card view display for the 'Recent apps' display.
Myself personally am not a fan of the new card view display for my 'Recent apps' and was delighted when I saw on YouTube vids that HTC thankfully integrated an option to choose between the Lollipop-style card view and the classic grid view. The latter I most preferred.
However it may be due to regional differences of the OTA update download (mine was in the UK @ over 700 MB and is HTC software number: 4.16.401.10) that meant I did not see the three-dots option in the 'Recent apps' screen while in portrait screen rotation. Early Youtube video demonstrations of the HTC One M8 Lollipop update were clearly showing the three-dots menu and Google search bar in the top-right part of the 'Recent apps' screen on HTC One M8. Mine wasn't.
Anyways, sorry for the lengthy introduction. See below for the two screenshots below which show you how to enable the grid view again using Landscape screen rotation.
btw, unlike most Android device users, I like to have total manual control over automatic screen rotation which is why I was compelled to create this easy step guide.
Step 1:
Recent apps was not giving any option to change from card to grid view while in portrait screen orientation
Step 2:
But when I briefly enable auto screen-rotate to switch to Landscape orientation then voila! The option is now shown :)
