[Q] Unknown Network topic

Hello,

I rooted and installed a custom rom on my Galaxy S3 last week. It is the sprint version and I had liquid smooth running fine. I went on a work trip out to Missoula and noticed that it was in Roaming mode. It said that there was a data roaming guard in effect so I turned it off. At that point, I lost all cell signal.

I completed the day of the work trip and returned to my home area. I still have no cell service.

The Status page lists the following:

Network: Searching for Service
Signal Strength: -120 dBm 99asu
Mobvile network type: Unknown
Service State: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Username: myusername@sprintpsc.com
Mobile Network State: disconnected
My Phone Number: unknown
MIN: Unknown
PRL Version: 1
MEID, IMEI, ICCID, and IP address all list a bunch of numbers
the IMEI is the correct one for my device.

So far I have tried flashing different roms and doing a factory reset. I have also flashed back to my nandroid backup. This has not worked. I then downloaded a full software reset for the phone and flashed that via ODIN. That still does not work. And the phone is now unrooted.

Any suggestions?

[Q] Unknown History topic

I have a customer who bought a tf300t used...knowing it was broken.
I have experience unlocking, rooting and installing custom ROMS on previous tablets and phones...but, no experience with the transformer.
After hours of reading I can only guess someone flashed the wrong recovery version on this thing.
It boot loops the ASUS screen with "The device is UnLocked" in the upper left corner.
When holding VOL DWN key, I get a little more... it says:
The Device is UnLocked.
Android cardhu-user bootloader <2.10 e> released by "US_epad-9.4.3.30-20120604" A03
Checking for android ota recovery
Booting recovery kernel image
Then it reboots after about 4 seconds.

On the SD card that is in the device is a recovery.img file and a META-INF directory. Digging through that it looks like its for some version of CWM.

ADB and Fastboot never see the device nor does device manager in Windows.

I tried various original firmwares and recovery IMG and ZIP files on the root of the SD card to no avail... nothing changes, nothing boots.

Thoughts? Is my customer S.O.L?

[Q] Htc One M7 Unknown Base band & IMEI topic

Hello I am fairly new to XDA and this is one of the very few posts that I have made. most of my questions & problems have been solved just by reading fellow user's posts.

I was trying to flash Venom One 7.0.2. after flashing my phone reboots every 5 minutes and has no signal, the only way I could get my phone to boot and run properly was to flash Paranoid Android 4.6 Beta 5. currently my phone has security on, which from the posts I have read needs to be turned off. I will be attempting to disable security, but in the meantime I am worried that I wont be able to repair my issue, if there is any ideas please let me know! I spent the past 4 days staying up till 3 trying to figure out what was going on, I think I have narrowed it down to apparently now but I still need major help (obvoustly) :p

I apologize in advance if there is a similar post, or if I am posting in the wrong area.

Anyone know what's the icon left of airplane icon at the top? It remained even when in airplane mode, but disappeared after turning off airplane mode.

Thanks!

Getting rid of the emulated CD drive and unknown devices in MTP mode [Partial Fix] topic

When you connect your MIUI device to the computer through USB in File Transfer (MTP) mode (that is, not in Photo Transfer), it also emulates a CD-ROM drive. The ISO image for the fake CD contains a copy of Mi Assistant, a device management tool for the PC, which is in Chinese only and can be downloaded from the Internet anyway. Basically, it's all useless and mildly annoying.
Attachment 3137500

Here's what you need to do to get rid of it:
Step 1. Edit /system/build.prop and add the line:

Code:

persist.service.cdrom.enable=0

Step 2. Edit /init.qcom.usb.rc and where it says:

Code:

on property:sys.usb.config=mtp

(a) Change the first line to remove mention of mass_storage (this is for the CD only):

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/functions mtp

(b) Remove these two lines:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/ro 1
write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/file /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

Similarly, where it says:

Code:

on property:sys.usb.config=mtp,adb

(a) Change the first line after the above to:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/functions mtp,adb

(b) Remove these two lines:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/ro 1
write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/file /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

Step 3. Delete the ISO image file to free up some space.
File location: /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

And here's how to do it:
Using Android Debug Bridge from the command line:

Code:

adb root
adb shell "mount -o remount,rw /system"
adb shell "echo persist.service.cdrom.enable=0 >>/system/build.prop"
adb pull /init.qcom.usb.rc

Now use your favorite editor to make changes as described above in step 2.

Code:

adb push init.qcom.usb.rc /
adb shell "mount -o remount,ro /system"
adb shell "rm -f /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso"
adb reboot

Using ES File Explorer:
Download from Play Store or the developer's website. Install. Open. In context menu (hold leftmost button for 1 second), switch Root Explorer to On (this will fail). Go back to the home screen. Open Security, Permissions, Root Access. Put the switch next to ES File Explorer to On. Now you can switch back to ES File Explorer, and follow the steps 1-3 above. Use the built-in editor the make changes in the files.

Unknown USB devices when connected in MTP mode
When your device is connected in MTP mode (File Transfer) there are 3 unrecognized USB devices. To check if you have them too, go to Control Panel and choose Device Manager or run mmc devmgmt.msc from the command line (screenshot 1). The devices appear to have no hardware IDs (screenshot 2) and their class number seems to be {c897b31c-e8d2-59e9-a212-ccf0962fe102} (full registry dump provided as attachment).
Attachment 3137478 Attachment 3137479
This problem appears to be caused by the CD-ROM emulation as well: the number of devices will actually increase to 4 when it's switched off following the instructions above, which means there must be one extra step to get rid of it completely. This doesn't seem to cause any problems and the issue appears to be purely cosmetic. If I have time to investigate it further, I will report the conclusions back here. Meanwhile, if anyone has an idea what the cause is, please feel free to share it (might also be a driver issue).

Disclaimer: there might be some mistakes in what I wrote. Please use at your own discretion. This should work with a "developer" stock ROM out of the box, otherwise you'll need to set-up root access first.

IMEI Null / null / Baseband Unknown topic

Hello there..

Long story short, I bought a Note 3 SM-9005 LTE version from eBay.

The seller said the following:

Before upgrading to Android L 5.0 (Leak) the phone was fine (fully working, SIM working, etc)
After upgrading to Android L 5.0 (Leak) the phone was still fine but.. the SIM card stopped working. Actually, it stopped completely recognizing SIM cards. Also the IMEI turned into null/null and baseband into unknown (something that he didn't tell me.. and of course I found out alone)

Facts: *#1234# = Everything except the modem. It only shows the rest 2 but not the modem.

Also when I saw that the IMEI is null/null I remembered that the IMEI is available behind the battery (there's a label) but guess what.. it was removed..

Conclusions:

A) The phone was stolen by someone (Only the phone came no S-pen, Box, Charger, etc)
B) He indeed messed up with his phone and something got destroyed/corrupted. I don't know.

So I am asking you what can I do right now.. I really need to find a fix otherwise I'm opening a dispute case so I can take my money back.

Thank you in advance.

N7100 - baseband unknown topic

Hi xda members.
I own a Note II (N7100), and two days ago, after trying to update to Android 4.4.2, my baseband with IMEi go "unknown". I've tried a lot of tricks, but nothing worked. I've flash stock rom, custom, different modems, but without any results. Anyone know how to resolve that?

[Q] Help with imei null/baseband unknown (I have read so much but still stuck) topic

Hi,

I don't know why this happened. My phone is rooted but just randomly stopped working. It wasn't because of any flash. All I had done was root it about 5 months prior and was still on stock firmware. But now I have no signal. Here is what I have done.

1. Bought new sim board.
2. Flash the parambin file.
3. Tried to the qpst method to use nv reader to manually enter my imei. But the drivers won't work. Always has an ! point next to devices in device manager. Read, could be because I have the international version.
4. Tried flashing 2-3 other modems.
5. Updated to 4.4.4
6. Flash a file EFS_N7100XXND3_KH435987_REV05_user_low_ship to supposedly reset imei. Now I am just in factory mode.
7. Bashed head on desk.

Phone is out of warranty and there are no service centres near me. I really don't want to buy a new phone because I am saving for baby stuff.

Thanks in advance,
