[Q] Has mediatek provided source code for later devices? topic

When Mediatek announced they were to provide full source code to Android One devices I thought they were to release source code for every following chip, but I can't seem to find it for anything else.

Am I completely missing the code or was their new strategy short-lived?

[Q] Security of rooted Android devices topic

Hello!

I have some basic questions about the security of rooted android devices. I'm running Cyanogenmod 11 actually on my SGS3. Of course I rooted it to install custom Recovery and ROM. So is there any possibility for an App to get Root Access without recognition?
I dont need the Root access anymore, I only wanted to install Cyanogenmod and thats it. What to do to fully unroot Cyanogen?

Another question:
If i have enabled "only install from trustet sources" am I safe? Or could there be sort of drive-by-downloads for example on this site sometimes i get the pop-up "your phone has (13) viruses, click ok ...".

Yeah thats it, I'm a little bit paranoid especially according to my passwords, are they safe!?

Thanks a lot and Greets from Germany! :)

[APP][MOD] Spotify Tablet MOD for GB+ Devices (Disable Random Restriction) topic

Here is Spotify APK moded to disable random restriction on player for GB+ devices. Looking everywhere for an alternative for TabletMetrics Xposed Module found @ViRb3 post . He had managed to modify Spotify app, but the version of his app requires API level 15 and GB is on API9 level. And his version of API9 Spotify app wasn't installing in our GB devices. So starting from @ViRb3 ideas (half-way explained) in his post I decided to decompile Spotify and find my way. (Later I will give more technical details on how I achived it)

[Q] New to using Sony devices topic

Hi there,

Have recently purchases the Z3C and really loving it so far:

Had a couple of questions I was looking to get answered, if possible.

1. I am using the stock Sony Email app and noticed that when i see an email preview in my Notifications window (swiping down from top of phone) it gives me the option to either 'Mark as Read' or 'Reply'

Does anyone know how I could possibly change the option 'Mark as Read' to 'Delete' ? Is this configurable somehow?

2. In the recent apps screen (to the right of the home button at bottom of the device) there is an excellent option to 'Close All' -

Is there a way I can exclude an app from being killed. At the mum it is cutting off the 'Walkman' app which I use to listen music. It is a little frustrating to cut my audio off and be have to re-open 'Walkman' app.

Thanks in advance,

litfoo

Nexus 5 and USB Audio Devices (Lollipop) topic

I was under the impression that Lollipop supported USB audio devices OS wide, but I haven't been able to get my two Schiit DACs (Modi and Fulla) to work in Google Play Music. I also have a pair of Audioengine A2+ speakers (USB connection) that do work. All three of the devices are detected by USB Audio Tester and are connected via a USB OTG adapter and powered USB hub.

I've reached out to Google and Schiit. So far, only Schiit has responded, but they only said that USB audio may not work with all Android devices and that they didn't have a Nexus 5 to test. I'll update if I get any response from Google.

I haven't been able to find much on the internet about USB audio in Android. Google has two pages (1, 2) on USB audio didn't lead me to anything to help solve the problem, so if anyone is aware of other pages on the topic, let me know. Additionally, the second one only seems to confirm that the Nexus 5 should work since both of the Schiit devices are USB Audio 2.0 compliant. I'm also aware some apps support USB audio, but I need to use Google Play Music since I could only store a fraction of my library locally.

[Q] Can Samsung 12.2 screen cast and "nearby devices" to nexus 5? topic

I'm new to Samsung. I'm curious what can be done. My main goal is replying to text messages on the 12.2 note, and sharing notes and files seamlessly between them. Both on latest ota Android. 4.42 And 5.0.1. Not currently rooted but I do have a little experience with the process on the nexus 5. I do miss gravitybox now I'm on lollipop

[Q] How do I find a device's location if I don't have access to it? topic

So I just noticed recently that a new device has shown up in my Android Device Manager. It is a Samsung SM-G900F, which apparently is a T-Mobile Galaxy S5 (it says T-Mobile in the web version of the Play Store). I only know two people with S5s and they're both on Verizon. I'm concerned someone has gained access to my Google account, so I'm hoping to gain some more information. The device cannot be found in ADM, likely because the app is not installed and set up, but I have access to the device in the web version of the Play Store, so I can install apps to it. So here's my question - are there any device location apps I can install to the phone to help me determine where this device is? I don't really want to confront anybody, but this would give me an indication of whether this could be someone I know. Is there a different method you could recommend to gain any other insight into where this mystery device came from or how it came to be associated with my account?

Getting rid of the emulated CD drive and unknown devices in MTP mode [Partial Fix] topic

When you connect your MIUI device to the computer through USB in File Transfer (MTP) mode (that is, not in Photo Transfer), it also emulates a CD-ROM drive. The ISO image for the fake CD contains a copy of Mi Assistant, a device management tool for the PC, which is in Chinese only and can be downloaded from the Internet anyway. Basically, it's all useless and mildly annoying.
Attachment 3137500

Here's what you need to do to get rid of it:
Step 1. Edit /system/build.prop and add the line:

Code:

persist.service.cdrom.enable=0

Step 2. Edit /init.qcom.usb.rc and where it says:

Code:

on property:sys.usb.config=mtp

(a) Change the first line to remove mention of mass_storage (this is for the CD only):

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/functions mtp

(b) Remove these two lines:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/ro 1
write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/file /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

Similarly, where it says:

Code:

on property:sys.usb.config=mtp,adb

(a) Change the first line after the above to:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/functions mtp,adb

(b) Remove these two lines:

Code:

write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/ro 1
write /sys/class/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/file /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

Step 3. Delete the ISO image file to free up some space.
File location: /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso

And here's how to do it:
Using Android Debug Bridge from the command line:

Code:

adb root
adb shell "mount -o remount,rw /system"
adb shell "echo persist.service.cdrom.enable=0 >>/system/build.prop"
adb pull /init.qcom.usb.rc

Now use your favorite editor to make changes as described above in step 2.

Code:

adb push init.qcom.usb.rc /
adb shell "mount -o remount,ro /system"
adb shell "rm -f /data/miui/cdrom_install.iso"
adb reboot

Using ES File Explorer:
Download from Play Store or the developer's website. Install. Open. In context menu (hold leftmost button for 1 second), switch Root Explorer to On (this will fail). Go back to the home screen. Open Security, Permissions, Root Access. Put the switch next to ES File Explorer to On. Now you can switch back to ES File Explorer, and follow the steps 1-3 above. Use the built-in editor the make changes in the files.

Unknown USB devices when connected in MTP mode
When your device is connected in MTP mode (File Transfer) there are 3 unrecognized USB devices. To check if you have them too, go to Control Panel and choose Device Manager or run mmc devmgmt.msc from the command line (screenshot 1). The devices appear to have no hardware IDs (screenshot 2) and their class number seems to be {c897b31c-e8d2-59e9-a212-ccf0962fe102} (full registry dump provided as attachment).
Attachment 3137478 Attachment 3137479
This problem appears to be caused by the CD-ROM emulation as well: the number of devices will actually increase to 4 when it's switched off following the instructions above, which means there must be one extra step to get rid of it completely. This doesn't seem to cause any problems and the issue appears to be purely cosmetic. If I have time to investigate it further, I will report the conclusions back here. Meanwhile, if anyone has an idea what the cause is, please feel free to share it (might also be a driver issue).

Disclaimer: there might be some mistakes in what I wrote. Please use at your own discretion. This should work with a "developer" stock ROM out of the box, otherwise you'll need to set-up root access first.
