[Q] New FireTV Stick, Won't Start topic

I have an Amazon Fire TV stick. I plugged it into the HDMI port. I tried using the port on the TV and the port on the Set Top Box. On both of them I go to the remote, I press TV Input at the bottom of the remote, by repeatedly pressing TV Input I am able to get to HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. But I'm unable to select either HDMI port. I tried pushing OK/Enter and TV Input again. It doesn't work. How do I fix this?

I have VZ P265v2 RC
and Motorola QIP7232 set top box

The power is fine.

When I have the TV monitor plugged into the SetTopBox, On the screen I see "Verizon press menu to watch FIOS TV ..."

I press "TV Input" on the remote and I see Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component

By repeatedly pressing "TV Input" I navigate to the option I want (Tuner, Composite, HDMI1, HDMI2, VGA, VGA Component)

If I just stay at HDMI1 or HDMI2 it doesn't seem to select it, and the FireTV stick doesn't start. I have the stick plugged into the USB so the power should be fine. Is there a way for me to confirm that. There is no little LED or anything. I played with the FireTV remote, but got no response.

This also happens if I press Menu to go to FIOS TV and then press TV Input.

Then I unplugged the set top box from the TV (so it's a "dumb" monitor). Then I followed the instructions below. Still no success. I have a "no signal" message on the tv screen.

Instructions which didn't help, yet
1. Remove Fire TV Stick from TV HDMI Port, just make sure TV is off
2. Unplug power source from Fire TV
3. Wait 15 minutes
4. Turn on TV
5. Plug in power source to the Fire TV Stick then insert to prefer HDMI 1 or 2 or 3
6. Press any button on the Fire TV remote, wait 30 sec on each input until you see the picture on the screen.

[Q] Stick with 4.4.4 or install 5.0.1 topic

Hello just a quick poll for Nexus 4 users. I've held off installing 5.0.1 as from scanning the threads it sounds too buggy. But thought I would canvas your opinions as to whether the problems are major or minor.

Keep in mind battery life is particularly important as I feel my battery drains too quickly as it is already.

[Q] Android stick + portrait mode topic

Hey guys,

I'm currently working on a dashboard, developed in HTML and CSS and i want to display this dashboard on a tv screen (screen hanging vertically). The problem is that the TV screen itself does not have a native portrait mode so i googled around and found the android stick which "might" solve this issue.

Is there any android stick you guys know of that can force the display (of say an app like Chrome) into portrait mode? I have a google chromecast but it doesnt seem to do the trick.

[Q] Fire TV Stick switches to wrong HDMI on its own topic

When I first got the stick I connected it to HDMI-1 on my Panasonic Plasma to do some testing, I later permanently moved it to one of the HDMI ports on my Pioneer receiver. The receiver connects to the TV via HDMI-2 where ARC is. The problem is that when I switch the receiver to the Fire TV input the TV automatically gets switched to HDMI-1 where nothing is connected, this also happens when FireTV gets out of sleep mode. I have to switch the TV back to HDMI-2. I am assuming that the FireTV is doing this via CEC. I have a Chromecast, Roku, SageTV and a PC connected to the receiver and none of them exhibit this behavior.

I rebooted multiple times but id does not help. I can disable CEC on the TV or Receiver but then I loose ARC so that is not an option. Any ideas on how to fix this?

[Q] box instead of stick? topic

I have the fire stick and so far it works pretty good. However, I have an external 2tb drive with TV shows, pictures, and movies on it that I want to access. I tried Plex but it doesn't work so well, it tends to stop and buffer. I tried kodi seeing it as a smb but that didn't work either.
So I was thinking about trying the for tv box. I have some questions that hopefully someone here can help me with. The movies/shows are in avi, mp4, mpeg, mkv formats. I know mx player will play these if I side load it.
1) can I attached the external HDD to the fire TV box via USB and have the media accessible to play on the TV box? (I know I can side load apps that will run the various formats IF the box will recognize the HDD)
2) can I access the external HDD over my wireless network WITHOUT running something like ES file explorer?
3) if it recognizes the ext HDD does it sort, or can I tell it, by movie/TV show?
4) if I am in a situation where I lose internet, can I still view local media, I.e. on the ext HDD?
