Clockworkmod without losing internal storage? topic

I'm running the stock rom on my device currently, but am planning on installing "clockworkmod recovery". Is there any way to install it without losing access to the built in internal memory? I still want to install my apps & system files there to save space on my external sd if possible, but I know when I installed it on my last phone I no longer had access to my 1GBs of internal memory. On this phone I have 1.5GBs internal space and I don't want to lose it. Is there any way to keep it? Thank you!
