Selling phone on Verizon Edge topic

I purchased a phone on the edge program for Verizon. It's not fully paid off so I am wondering if I can sell the phone say on Swappa or Ebay. I know I'd still be obligated to continue making the payments, but does Verizon tie the ESN to my account until it is paid off so that it can't be activated on another account? Do they care? It's currently sitting in a drawer with no SIM in it and an ESN check says it's clean and ready to activate.

I'd just hate to sell it only to find out the purchaser can't activate it.
