Questions about stock rom topic

Let me first say hello I am new to this forum. I am new to rooting/flashing when it comes to androids. I have a Verizon Motorola Droid Razr HD XT926 which I am trying to fix for a friend. It is stuck on the red eye and will not boot. I understand I will need to re-flash the software, and I understand the steps I need to take to re-flash using RSD lite. My problem is I cannot find a download for the stock rom, nor am I 100% sure which one I need. My friend has no interest in rooting, so I just need it back to stock. I do not know what software version is currently on the phone. Is there a way to find out with the phone not booting? Or does this even matter? Can I just flash the latest official version? And that is my main problem, which version to use, and where to find the download for it. I have searched around for some time and cannot find a definite answer on this. [Q] Questions about porting Blisspop Rom to Xperia Z1 topic

Hi,

After much Youtube and Google searching for good Lollipop roms, I came across Blisspop (v20), which looks like a pretty interesting Rom. I checked XDA and their official builds, but they don't seem to have a build available for Xperia Z1. So I'm thinking of porting Blisspop to my Z1 (if I can!). But before I try porting, I have some questions.

1. On Blisspop's download website , they have their own Bliss kernel. I'm pretty sure that the kernel won't work for Xperia since it's not built for it. What kernel should I use to safely flash this ROM without risk of hard brick (or brick of any kind)?
2. Is camera fixed yet? I've heard that it's still broken on CM12, but that's probably for the older CM12 kernel?
3. What's different between the builds with other devices? Should I download the Hammerhead build and try to modify it?
4. Is it difficult to port for an inexperienced person (I have no programming knowledge.)

Hello, i've just got a couple questions about Android itself and a device I recently bought.

Today I got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for the sole purpose of using it for study, I also bought a case/keyboard it. I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A. I'm wondering if there's a way for the two devices to "talk" together at all. I am also wondering on the tablet how to get rid of the "Quick Connect" option which is next to "S Finder" in the pull down menu from the top of the screen. I'm still somewhat new to Android, so any general tips would be great too. I've removed some bloatware from both of my android devices themselves, such as all of the Samsung pre-installed software.

Also any recommended apps too would be great and also some tips on how to use my tablet and get the most out of it. I've been a desktop computer person my whole life and I've built a few too, I just felt like a new change and I want to make the most out of it. I apologise if this is the wrong area to post in, it's just I have no idea where to ask for help.

I finally got an official OTA update to Lollipop yesterday from 21.11.23 KitKat.
I now have some questions regarding rooting Lollipop, since I'm a total noob, and some weird stuff I noticed on my phone.
So my questions are the following:
1) Will I still get OTAs if I root without a custom recovery? (assuming it's possible)
2) If I indeed CAN root without a custom recovery, how do I do it?
3) When I go to Regulatory Information, my phone shows "SAR Information for India" (can't provide screenshot, new poster) while my Region and the ROM is from Greece ( it's .reteu ) is that normal, or is some regional setting messed up?

Hi, I'm in complete meltdown today. I didn't do thorough research and unlocked bootloader on my Z3. Now I regret it.

I heard you could restore the DRM files by mounting the TA files back onto the phone. Can someone give me their backed up TA files so that I can restore DRM features on my phone? I cried this morning because of my ignorance.

If not, can someone help me add "CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.7 Recovery" on my phone? I can't seem to load "Advance Stock Kernel with CWM Recovery v01 (FW: 23.0.A.2.93)" onto my phone. The program used to load it won't just make it happen.

I think I can handle the rest after that, but I need some suggestions.

Anybody have experience using the ATT E980 unlocked on TMobile service? LTE bands work well on the phone?

Also I've been searching for ROMs for the past hour, and cant seem to find any with a "hacked hotspot" aka "unrestricted tethering". I have the unlimited TMobile plan, and need a ROM with the unlimited hotspot feature. Does anybody know of one?

Ok. So, I am using Micromax canvas A1 with Android One handset. I have unlocked the bootloader, flashed a custom CWM Recovery and Rooted it.
I have also created a full backup from CWM Recovery on external SD Card.
Now, here are some questions that I want to ask:
1 ) If I flash a custom bootlogo. So, if I restore my phone from CWM recovery, will the bootlogo will change back to the default?

2) If I install a custom ROM and if I don't like it and if I want to return back to my old stock ROM, will I be able to do it by restoring my phone from CWM Recovery from the created backup?

3) If I restore my phone from CWM Recovery, will my phone return to factory version (all data will be deleted, such as Contacts, Call logs, SMSs, etc.), or will it return to as it were when I created the backup?

[Q] HTC One M8(Unlocked) Rooting Questions topic

Hello All,

So I have had my HTC One M8 since it's release all the way back to March/May. I've been using it and it's great and all and the Lollipop update is even better! I've set my mind on rooting because of seen some cools things such as the XPOSED Modules as well as a plethora of others such as Titanium Backup and Super SU(?).

I was wondering if there was any rom that would keep the Sense features/apps included with the phone but still have Lollipop and let me use icon packs and whatnot. Also if there are any guides to installing these said roms and what I should be wary of.

I've been enjoying my Z3 for 3 days now, having used a Note1 running MIUI for the last 3 years. (It still works great and i love miui, but I'm going for four years... i saw this D6653 on Amazon Warehouse open-box for 0, so i grabbed it. No warrantee, but perfect condition as far as i can tell, and working with AT&T :)

Anyway here's four easy questions from someone who is 3 yrs behind and just arrived:

1. charger.
The Z3 charger is 1.5A. I happen to have a 2.1A from another gadget, and it worked great for charging the Note. but then again those batteries are replaceable. should i keep it away from the z3? Will my non-replaceable sealed Z3 battery last meaningfully longer if I use the proper 1.5A, or is it fine to just use either one interchangeably?

2. X-pen?
i almost never used the "S-pen" but it was nice once in a while.
would this pen be the same experience? are all phablets stylus-enbled these days?

3. whats the go-to swiping keyboard?
I'm really used to swype. (don't like swiftkey.)
i notice that the xperia keyboard does swiping now.
does the google keyboard swipe as well?
is there a known favorite for swipers now?

4. noise cancellation
i heard that the Z3 does software noise-canceling. where's that setting? does it require special headphones with mics mounted at the ears? or does it use the mic(s) on the unit to listen for a repetitive noise worth canceling?
or maybe just not true at all...

5. lowlight camera
someone mentioned there's a lowlight capability that would be a shame to lose if one were to unlock BL. where is this lowlight setting?

6. what do you recommend for backup, non-rooted?
how about the one built into the free AVG virus utility that came with it? is it actually a decent utility or is it bloat?

7. xperia lounge - is there really something of value there, or it is just like /r/lounge?
how about Movie Express (which required access to your address book!). any point?

weird annoyance-
i imported 1700 call history records, but the phone app shows only those from 1/1/15 going forward. is there another way to access the records which should be there according to the import app? (the sister app had no trouble importing 3500 sms records, and the z3 stock sms app has no problem showing them all.)

misc fun fact i leave you in exchange:
i have an external non-powered (line powered) usb soundcard/interface which i have been using in order to record proper 2-channel stereo into my mac. i plugged it into Z3 (regular usb -to- micro adapter) and it worked! the volume was pretty low, but maybe that will improve if i play with it more. i don't know if there's too many units out there that allow completely portable stereo recording with with external mics.

Couple of removing branding, flashing questions topic

Hi, got an old S3 and I'm handing it down to my son. It's been a great phone and is still in perfect condition. It's currently locked to the Three network UK, but I want to use it on a different network (unlock it), remove the Three branding. (Flash a stock firmware) and I'm quite happy to leave it on 4.1.2

I have rooted several Android Samsung phones in the past and know the procedure (although can't get my Note Pro 12.2 wifi 4.4.2 rooted) :crying:

Questions:
1) Will flashing to a stock UK firmware unlock it to all networks?

2) Based the above information, which firmware would you recommend? When I look at the firmware section theres always seems to be several UK versions but none ever have my exact numbers on them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, just dragging and dropping all the files from one card to the other won't work? I haven't tried it, and I do remember once before trying to use the MiniTool Partition Wizard for something. Think I realized I could do it another way, but I don't remember the details of why I was trying to use it.

2nd question:
If I Greenifiy widgits, like Beautiful Widgets, will that effect the running of the widget? It doesn't seem like it has, but still wondering in case something is happening I'm not seeing. Also, would it affect Widget Locker too. Need to put that on for the lockscreen.

3rd and last for the night:
Is the only way to customize the notification light in CM11, with a 3rd party app?

Just wondering how is the community going on here with these tablets? looks like its still going strong and supported!

some basic questions... topic

Hi all, so it seems our device isnt getting much support or anything so I've decided to take the plunge try to learn something about porting and see if i can port something to our device... for me its not such a risk as the phone was basically a gift so if it gets bricked ill be sad but not end of the world sad...
so first off i have a few questions

1 the code name all the phones seem to have dev codenames... and of course i notices in the jmz kernal we are downloading the a3ul kernal. so is this the actual name for our phone.. i ask because there are some stock roms and i thought i could maybe make these the base to start from...

2 can you give me some ideas of comparable phones i checked the htc mini one and two while close they both have different cams so i would like suggestions as to other devices so i can try downloading roms and taking them apart to see what i can find out...

3 to any devs, could you recommend some good sites to give me basics in either A)-porting a rom for us, B)-compiling a rom from some source or lastly and really hope leastly the idea of developing something myself somehow...

[Q] New Owner Setup Questions topic

I pre-ordered my Note Pro (P905) and it will hopefully arrive next week because the store I bought them from sells them a lot cheaper and it's not a popular model. So anyway, here are my questions.

1. I've read conflicting reports about the on air updates. I've read that it makes the phone act worse (hangs and stuff) that's why it's apparently better to just block it and then use towelroot instead of c.f. root. Is this true? I kind of don't want to trip KNOX but I'd probably be willing to do so after a week since warranty is terrible after that period (Think that it would take months to replace the phone).

2. Since we can modify the DPI of all applications through Xposed modules, is it possible to adjust the grid size of Touchwiz to put more stuff on screen?

3. Tripping Knox is only bad if you need warranty right?

4. The basic things I need to check on the Note Pro are:
A. Try Injustice Gods Among Us to see if blue screen happens on stock rom
B. Stylus test
C. Camera test
D. Phone Test
Is this right? I'm only familiar with the blue screen of death issue on some models.

5. Freezing the magazine module in Titanium Backup effectively gets rid of it right?

6. What's a fun thing to do with my old Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012) 3G once I get this phone?

7. Does chromecast work on this device? I've some reports that say it doesn't.

[Q] questions about the kernal tweaker topic

I am now using fransco kernal, with kernal tweaker installed. However, I noticed everytime i reboot my nexus 5, the setting set previous no longer saved. I have to do redo the cpu frequencies at fast charge everytime after a reboot.

1st, is there way to set load at startup for those settings in kernal tweaker?

[Q] File structure questions topic

Hi all,

And yet another noob question...

The problem of being this ignorant, is that it is also hard to ask a good question. So I'll have to tell the story in full...

I started to use custom ROMs only one month ago. I installed and configured CWM 6.0.4.5, and through ADB PUSH to /sdcard/ I put the files for CyanogenMod 11 "cm11.zip" and "cm11_gapps.zip" into my phone. I was able to install this ROM, so no issues there.
After some time of playing around, I felt that some bugs in the ROM were unacceptable to me. I also got errors that stated that my memory was full, although, when I looked into ES file explorer or even the standard 'Storage" tool in android, my phone appeared far from full (+5 Gb free!). To me, that was the drop to remove this ROM (althoug I already found out that it was not the ROM's fault...).

So I installed another ROM, CM10.1.3. Again, I ADB pushed the files "cm1013.zip" and "cm1013_gapps.zip" to /sdcard/ , rebooted into recovery. There I did the following:

- install zip
- choose zip from /sdcard

At this point, I thought I would find my files "cm1013.zip" and "cm1013_gapps.zip", but I didn't! Instead, I did find the previous files "cm11.zip" and "cm11_gapps.zip"!
However, I did see a folder "0/", so when going into that one, I did find my files... So I continued the installation of my ROM, no issues.

But now, when I use ES File Explorer, I can't find these "cm11.zip" and "cm11_gapps.zip" anywhere! It seems like once I'm in my ROM, I can't access a complete part of my memory.

This means I lost a big chunck of my internal memory!
What did I do wrong, and more important, how can I resolve??

Returning G3 for M8 but have questions topic

Currently running a Verizon g3 and have till tomorrow to return it. While I like it the heat and bad battery life are just something I can't deal with. I need a phone I can root to use my tasker automation profiles with. I've done some light research but trying to find out if a new M8 that comes with 4.4.4 it's rootable or unlockable. I've never had an HTC device but really liked the smoothness of the M8. The LG is nice but this thing is like an oven.
